Feliz Navidad: And Don’t Forget The Prozac

with 7 comments

It’s almost 10 and a little drizzly here in Los Angeles. My coffee is hot and my son sits shivering in front of the new Playstation we gave them for Chanukkah. My daughter and my husband sleep late and in a few moments I’ll wake them and ask them to get out of bed. I wont’ necessarily have something for them to do, but they should be upright with eyes open.

They city is absurdly quiet and I remember just how much I hated living in rural Colorado all those years ago.

IRL I’m Also Prickly: Microsoft BizSpark Party In Los Angeles

with 12 comments

Last night I was lucky enough to attend the Microsoft BizSpark party in LA.

I did not win the gaming console *le sigh* my children are the last two in the developed world who have been denied gaming systems. Eh, the Mac Laptops my mother showers them with will have to make due.

I’m giving you a very brief recap because I’ve got a tennis match in 45 minutes I’m really busy today and I’m going to the premiere of Marley and Me this evening. Yari, I’m all about Team Anniston (don’t worry, Yari gets it).

Moving along:

Picked up Lolita and headed to Hollywood for the BizSpark Party. In the car she’s texting someone and I’m like, “who are you texting?”

“Oh just my dumb friend who is so shy that he can’t walk in until we get there.”

“Who is he? Do I know him?”

“No, he’s just a blogger, he goes by the name of …

Saturday Round Up

with 5 comments

Went to the Griffith Park Observatory and it was beautiful. Unfortunately the Gottlieb corridor was the other Robert J. Gottlieb the rich one (the one we’ve never met). Dang, I’d have enjoyed having the corridor named after me.

robert-j-gottlieb-corridorI am, however, available for adoption and it would be ever so convenient because I wouldn’t have to change my name.

FYI the book club is reading Naked by David Sedaris. I’m loving it but only in small doses, there’s a great essay titled I Like Guys that’s incredibly prophetic with California’s Prop 8 fiasco. We’re also reading the curious incidient of the dog in the night-time which is completely engrossing as the Autistic Spectrum fascinates me and I sometimes wish we wouldn’t attempt to fix kids that don’t appear broken. In between I’ve also read The Woman Who is Always Tan and Has a Flat Stomach, oh gosh, this is the perfect holiday gift book, I hate her too, but I also want to be her.

Three great reads and none of the links on this blog are monetized so they really are here just for your benefit.

I also had a chance to visit with a friend of mine from Junior High School. He came over late last night with his wife (whom I’d never met). You know how sometimes you just hold your breath and think “Oh gosh I hope she’s not horrible.” I loved her, she’s smart and pretty and kind and I’m exhilarated thinking that my very old friend has brought me a new girlfriend.

Because really, we all need our girlfriends.

As a Nod To the White Trash Mom

with 4 comments

Because I’ve read the book cover to cover and I’m super stalker over at her website, I will heed the warning of White Trash Mom (WTM) and not join the Muffia. Remember the hideous mean girls from Junior High? Well, they’re part of the PTA now and if you can’t sidestep them gracefully your children will pay the price.

With that being said I have only two things to offer you.

Adam's composition last night

Adam

This picture, which a Muffia Mother would use in order to demonstrate that her child is clearly smarter than yours. But I won’t do that because today I’m paying attention to The White Trash Mom Handbook and not being an ass.

And a question for all my local Los Angeles readers. If you were taking WTM to lunch in Santa Monica, where would it be?

Her book has helped me navigate the school years without boring me to bits.

Super Secret Jonas Brothers Concert at the Roxy

with 9 comments

Okay, it’s not really a secret any longer.

I’m taking the kids to their first Sunset Strip Concert this week. The Jonas Brothers will play to a small audience (77 kids) but you can actually (virtually) be there with us.

On November 16th at exactly 3pm you’ll be able to watch along, pick your camera angle, win stuff and send text messages to the Jonas Brothers.

How did I get the VIP tickets for my kids? Just lucky I guess. American Eagle is sending a bunch of kids and they’re smart about it too. We (mommies) will be a captive audience while they tell us about their 77 kids line, where the clothes are guaranteed to be outgrown before they wear out. Good timing in a horrendous economy.

In any event, I’m looking forward to it, the kids are looking forward to it and if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.

I plan on a big Jo Bro post after the fact. I should be able to get really close with the camera too!
