Saturday Round Up

Went to the Griffith Park Observatory and it was beautiful. Unfortunately the Gottlieb corridor was the other Robert J. Gottlieb the rich one (the one we’ve never met). Dang, I’d have enjoyed having the corridor named after me.

robert-j-gottlieb-corridorI am, however, available for adoption and it would be ever so convenient because I wouldn’t have to change my name.

FYI the book club is reading Naked by David Sedaris. I’m loving it but only in small doses, there’s a great essay titled I Like Guys that’s incredibly prophetic with California’s Prop 8 fiasco. We’re also reading the curious incidient of the dog in the night-time which is completely engrossing as the Autistic Spectrum fascinates me and I sometimes wish we wouldn’t attempt to fix kids that don’t appear broken. In between I’ve also read The Woman Who is Always Tan and Has a Flat Stomach, oh gosh, this is the perfect holiday gift book, I hate her too, but I also want to be her.

Three great reads and none of the links on this blog are monetized so they really are here just for your benefit.

I also had a chance to visit with a friend of mine from Junior High School. He came over late last night with his wife (whom I’d never met). You know how sometimes you just hold your breath and think “Oh gosh I hope she’s not horrible.” I loved her, she’s smart and pretty and kind and I’m exhilarated thinking that my very old friend has brought me a new girlfriend.

Because really, we all need our girlfriends.

Promoting Your Product in Three Easy Steps: Email, Send, Pimp

with 4 comments

It starts like this. There’s an email that includes, “I noticed you write at Celsias and Green Options (interesting National Lampoon does nothing for them). My client has a new product that is going to save us from ourselves. Can I send it to you/you the press release.”

With some regularity the answer is yes, I write a review, and send the PR person a link to the review.

They say, “Thank you.” and I never hear from them again.

Bad. Business.

Like any other part of our lives, social media (yes, when you read my blog you are engaged in social media) is about relationships. Facebook, Linked In, Blogs and web pages are all about building relationships.

Make me like you. Here’s how. Use E.S.P. Email, Send, Pimp:

Quick Weekend Recap

with 2 comments

Friday brought the kids to camp and the dog to the sitter.

Drove to Goleta (Santa Barbara area)

Stopped on the way (Camarillo) for outlet shopping and discovered that really mediocre clothes in giant sizes make their way to the outlet stores. If you are morbidly obese Nike has plenty of discounted tennis skirts for you. They had one size small, it was stained in three places and they offered me 10% off. Uh, gee thanks Nike but I already have disgusting stained skirts at home.

Stayed at an okay hotel, had a pretty good dinner and Saturday morning showed up at UCSB for tennis.

I promise tomorrow you’ll get a review but in the interim I have one suggestion. Click here and reserve your very own weekend. Now.

Because seriously folks, these guys are good. Not just good, but every person there has a purpose, they all know tennis, they all teach well, the price is right and you’ll have fun.

So. Much. Fun. (except for the part when you realize you’re stinking it up)

So check out Brady Tennis and I’ll tell you more tomorrow, after my tennis match, of course.
